All About Me

Dr. Sani Aminu is a Consultant Urologist with three decades of international experience spanning clinical practice, surgical innovation, and healthcare leadership. His career is defined by a clinical expertise in urology, global training, and an enduring commitment to advancing modern urological care.

He obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria, and had specialist training and experience in Surgery and Urology through the West African College of Surgeons at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

 

His professional development continued with further training, experience and consultant appointments across multiple NHS hospitals in the United Kingdom. Dedicated to continuous learning, he has undertaken master classes and advanced courses through the European School of Urology in Germany, Spain, France, and the Netherlands, as well as additional urological clinical programmes in Austria, the USA, China, and Egypt.

Dr. Aminu holds Fellowships of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS, Urol) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS), alongside a Postgraduate Diploma in Urology from University College London. He has also pursued studies in health management.

 

His clinical practice covers a broad spectrum of urological conditions, including complex communication and counselling, erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism, prostatitis and pelvic pain, lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), bladder therapies, and a range of penoscrotal and endourological surgical operations. His special interests lie in men’s health (erectile dysfunction and related conditions), benign prostate obstruction, and urinary stone disease.

His clinical practice consistently aligns with NICE (UK) and European Association of Urology guidelines.

​

Dr. Aminu’s clinical research and innovative contributions include published work on prostate cancer diagnostics, particularly prostate-specific antigen density and prostate symptom scoring. He introduced the term “Trigonalgia” to describe post‑infective bladder pain and has developed novel techniques for flexible cystoscopy to reduce pain & discomfort and TRUS-guided prostate biopsy aimed at reducing bleeding.

 

He maintains general registration with both the General Medical Council (UK) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, and is an active member of leading international bodies including the Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU), European Association of Urology (EAU), Endourology Society, Pan African Urological Association, International Alliance of Urolithiasis (IAU), and the International Society of Sexual Medicine.

Beyond his clinical and academic work. â€‹Dr. Aminu is deeply engaged in health care-focused charities and socio-economic development charities and think tanks. He advocates for equitable and effective healthcare and socio-economic systems.
